Media minister defends promotion of Angola abroad

Pretoria - The Angolan Social Communication minister, Carolina Cerqueira, Monday in Pretoria, South Africa, spoke of the need for press attaches to publicise Government achievements, as a way of promoting the image of the country abroad.

According to the source, speaking at a meeting she held with press attaches of Angolan diplomatic missions in Africa, the minister stressed the importance of the promotion and publicising of the progress scored in the country in all domains, so the world can see that there has been very positive developments.


In a discussion of the current work of press attaches, Carolina Cerqueira warned that the responsibilities will grow, given the need for a wider publicity of the image of the new Angola currently under construction.


The minister stressed that the Government continues working in preparing conditions for a plural, democratic and impartial press.


She also announced the approval soon of a legislative package conformed with the new Constitution, including the Press Law on television, radio and incentives to the private media, the journalist status, press advising and others.


Carolina Cerqueira recalled that the Ministry of Social Communication continues working towards the creation of new managing structures for the public organs, with the emergence of the Managing Boards, aiming at a more dynamic and scientific management.
 
The meeting discussed such topics as the role and functioning of press attaches in diplomatic missions, their constraints in the performance of their duties and ways of a better work as diplomatic agents in Angolan embassies and consulates abroad.
 
Meanwhile, minister Carolina Cerqueira met with the secretary general of the Southern Africa Broadcasting Association (SABA), the Mozambican Arlindo Lopes, with whom she discussed issues relating to the holding, in Luanda, in September this year, of the 18th General Conference of the organisation.


Arlindo Lopes said the conference will focus mainly on matters concerning production and exchange of contents, with the participation of all Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) member states and guests.
 
Carolina Cerqueira also granted audience to Multichoise–Africa president, Collins Khumalo, with whom she analysed issues of common interest.


The minister’s delegation includes the national director for Information, José Luís de Matos, the Ministry’s secretary general, Júlia Mingas, the Information director of the Angola Press Agency (Angop), Luisa Damião and other officials.

 
The meeting was attended by Angolan press attaches in Guinea Bissau, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Congo and Democratic Republic of Congo.
