AMB Uganda: report launched on world press freedom day
The African Media Barometer (AMB) Uganda 2010 report has been launched in Kampala yesterday.
Members of the AMB-expert panel released their research findings on media freedom in Uganda and warned that the proposed amendments to the Press and Journalists Act of 1995 contravene the constitutional guarantees of freedom of expression and the press.
Panel member Livingstone Sewanyana, the executive director of the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, said the media, as the “fourth estate” of government, is crucial in helping the population make informed choices.
