Donor conference looks at the impact of digital innovation on media development

“Digital changes everything, or does it?” this is one of the questions international donor organisations try to find answers to during their meeting in Salzburg/ Austria this week.

The high-level event is co-organised by the Salzburg Global Seminar, the Knight Foundation and the Global Forum for Media Development in the framework of the Strengthening Independent Media Initiative (SIM). The exercise’s aim is to bring greater strategic focus and coordination to the field of independent media development around the world, to improve the flow of financial support and new technologies into the media development sector, as well as to ameliorate coordination between funders, trainers and implementers in the field.

Today’s discussions will take up the issue of sustainable media business models, effective development communication through new and old media and investment in independent media, that meets the realities on the ground. The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung's media coordinator Rolf Paasch will also be on the panel to discuss developments in african media landscapes from the perspective of the African Media Barometer (AMB)
