The editor-in-chief of Defender, a weekly Amharic newspaper, Abraham Kifle, and his manager Ermias Asfaw today claimed they were interrogated by the police following alleged accusations by a cabinet minister.
The journalist and his manager said they were summoned to the Central Investigation Centre last Thursday (2 September 2010) where they were grilled after being accused of defamation by the cabinet affairs minister, Berhanu Adelo who is also an advisor to the Prime Minister
Asfaw indicated that the police did not give them details of the charge except the issue of defamation during the May 2010 general election. In the elections, the minister lost his Bonga area seat in the Southern State.
